Stump Grinding
Multi-Stump Package.
Grinding Two or More Stumps at Once
If you have more than one stump sitting on your Chelmer property, combining them into a single visit almost always works out cheaper per stump than booking separate jobs. That is the core idea behind our Multi-Stump Package: we mobilise once, grind everything on the same day, and spread the fixed costs of travel and setup across the whole job. You save money; we work efficiently. It is a straightforward arrangement.
What the Work Actually Involves
We arrive with a walk-behind or tracked stump grinder, depending on access. The machine uses a carbide-tipped cutting wheel to grind each stump down to a depth of roughly 150–300 mm below ground level, though we adjust depth to suit your intended use (lawn reinstatement, garden bed, or paving). We move systematically from one stump to the next across the property, working through the heartwood and surface roots around each base.
The grinding produces a pile of wood chip and soil mix at each stump site. Depending on which package you select, those grindings either stay on site as fill or we haul them away (our Mulch Clean and Haul service handles that if you want it). We tidy up the immediate area before we leave.
When Chelmer Homeowners Typically Need This
Chelmer and the surrounding suburbs (Graceville, Sherwood, Corinda, Indooroopilly) have a lot of mature residential blocks with large fig, jacaranda, camphor laurel and poinciana trees. When these are removed, they rarely leave just one stump. Common situations we see:
- A Queenslander yard where several old shade trees came down in the same storm or over successive wet seasons
- A renovation where a landscaper has cleared overgrown trees from multiple garden beds
- A fence replacement that exposed stumps from previous owners that had been hidden by growth
- A pool or driveway project where multiple stumps are blocking the footprint
There is no strict season for stump grinding, but many Chelmer homeowners book after storm season (typically November through March) when storm-damaged trees have already been removed and the stumps are left behind. Spring is also busy as people plan landscaping before summer.
What It Typically Costs
For a multi-stump job in Brisbane, you are generally looking at somewhere between $200 and $700 for two to four average-sized stumps, though the total can push higher if stumps are very large or conditions are difficult. The per-stump cost drops meaningfully when we are already on site and moving between locations on the same block.
What moves the price:
- Stump diameter - measured at ground level. A 300 mm stump grinds faster than an 800 mm one.
- Hardwood vs softwood - camphor laurel and mature fig grinds slower than softer species.
- Depth required - grinding to 100 mm for a garden bed costs less than grinding to 300 mm under a future driveway.
- Ground conditions - rocky soil or old concrete collars around stumps add time.
- Access - stumps behind locked gates, narrow side passages or on steep terrain may require a smaller machine or more manual work.
We assess all of this when we quote, so you get a firm price before we start.
What the Quote Includes (and What It Doesn't)
Our quotes for the Multi-Stump Package include:
- One site visit covering all listed stumps
- Grinding to agreed depth at each location
- Raking grindings back into the void as rough fill
The quote does not automatically include:
- Off-site removal of grindings (add our Mulch Clean and Haul service if you want a clean finish)
- Removal of the felled tree itself or any surface debris not directly related to the stumps
- Reinstatement of lawn, topsoil or garden beds (that is landscaping work, outside stump grinding scope)
- Any root system grinding that extends well beyond the stump base (that is a separate Root System Removal service if paths or pipes are involved)
Ask us when you call if you are unsure where your job sits.
Is This the Right Service for Your Property?
The Multi-Stump Package suits you if you have two or more stumps on the same residential block that need grinding in one visit. It does not matter much whether they are in different corners of the yard or clustered together.
It may not be the right fit if:
- You have only one stump (our Single Stump Grinding service is the right starting point)
- The stumps are on separate legal titles or addresses (pricing is structured per-property)
- One stump involves significant lateral root work threatening a path or service line (Root System Removal may need to be quoted separately for that stump)
A quick conversation or a few photos usually sorts this out before we book anything.
A Straightforward Note on Safety and Qualifications
Stump grinding equipment is industrial machinery. Grinding wheel contact, debris projection and hidden underground services (gas, water, Telstra pits) are genuine hazards on residential jobs. We hold public liability insurance, and we check Dial Before You Dig service locator records for your address before we start. If you have had recent works done on your property that may have shifted service locations, let us know.
If you are weighing up whether to hire us or rent a machine yourself: rental grinders are lighter and slower than commercial units, and they work well for small softwood stumps. For multiple stumps, hardwood species or anything over 400 mm diameter, a commercial grind is usually faster, cleaner and less physically demanding than a DIY attempt.
When you contact us, it helps to know roughly how many stumps you have, where they are on the block, and what you plan to do with the space afterwards. That lets us give you an accurate quote rather than a rough guess.
